Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR is the fastest road-legal sports car ever at the Ring!

14.11.2018

In 6:40.33 minutes, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR, equipped with an MR Performance Kit and 700 hp, conquered the Nürburgring Nordschleife under notarial supervision.

Behind the steering wheel was Porsche test driver Lars Kern.

With this fabulous lap time, Manthey-Racing is setting a new record – never another road-legal vehicle in the Eifel was that fast ever.

With the new lap record, we celebrate the second record on the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 2018 together with our customers Manthey-Racing and Porsche. Porsche factory driver Laurens Vanthoor set a new qualifying record in the Porsche 911 GT3 R (FIA GT3 regulations) in the Top 30 qualifying session of the ADAC Zurich 24h Race Nürburgring Nordschleife.

With his qualifying record of 8:09.105 minutes, Laurens Vanthoor also won the “Glickenhaus Trophy” and conquered the pole position at the famous 24h Race Nürburgring Nordschleife.

With its 20.6 kilometers and over 70 bends, different track surfaces, jump hills, and chicane, the racetrack is known as the “Green Hell” has been the benchmark for successful suspension development for decades.

“Together with Porsche Motorsport, we invested all our expertise in achieving this record. Making the 911 GT2 RS even faster is a challenge in itself. We are incredibly proud that we have now also set this new record,” said Nicolas Raeder, Managing Director of Manthey-Racing.

The streetlegal MR Performance Kit for the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, consists of a MR aerodynamics package, MR magnesium wheels, MR brake pads, MR braided-steel brake lines, MR additional water tank and an full adjustable MR coilover kit made by KW.

The Manthey-Racing MR Performance Kit provides the kind of technology you might expect to find in a racing car: modifications to the chassis, wheels, set-up and, above all, the dynamics improve the performance of the 911 GT2 RS. The Porsche 911 GT2 RS with MR Performance Kit is optimized for club racing and track day events. The only modification to the record-breaking car that was not road-legal was to the driver’s seat: for safety reasons, the standard sports bucket seat was replaced with a racing bucket seat, which had no weight advantage.

Lars Kern said after his lap: “That was great fun. With the parts package, the balance of the car is still extremely good, so I did not have to take any crazy risks to be quick. The fact that it was getting dark meant that I only had one attempt on the day. I only needed one.” The record-breaking run took place in autumnal but dry conditions at the Nürburgring.
